What are fiberglass reinforced plastics?
Fiberglass reinforced plastic is a composite material with many varieties, different properties, and a wide range of uses. It is a functional new material made of synthetic resin and fiberglass through the composite process.
Features of fiberglass reinforced plastic:
(1) good corrosion resistance: FRP is a good corrosion-resistant materials, for the atmosphere; water and general concentration of acids and alkalis; salt and a variety of oils and solvents have good resistance, has been widely used in all aspects of chemical corrosion. Is replacing carbon steel; stainless steel; wood; non-ferrous metals and other materials.
(2) Light weight and high strength: FRP’s relative density is between 1.5~2.0, only 1/4~1/5 of carbon steel, but the tensile strength is close to or even exceeds that of carbon steel, and the strength can be compared with that of high-grade alloy steel, which is widely used in aerospace; high-pressure containers as well as other products that need to reduce self-weight.
(3) good electrical properties: FRP is an excellent insulating material for the manufacture of insulators, high-frequency can still maintain good.
(4) good thermal properties: FRP low conductivity, room temperature 1.25 ~ 1.67KJ only metal 1/100 ~ 1/1000 is an excellent thermal insulation material. In the case of instantaneous high heat, is the ideal thermal protection and corrosion-resistant materials.
(5) excellent process performance: according to the shape of the product to choose the molding process and simple process can be a molding.
(6) Good designability: the material can be fully selected according to the needs to meet the requirements of product performance and structure.
(7) low modulus of elasticity: the modulus of elasticity of FRP is 2 times larger than that of wood, but 10 times smaller than that of steel, so it is often felt that the rigidity is insufficient in the structure of the product, and it is easy to be deformed. Solution, can be made into a thin shell structure; sandwich structure can also be made up through the high modulus fiber or reinforcing rib form.
(8) Poor long-term temperature resistance: general FRP can not be used for a long time at high temperatures, general-purpose polyester resin FRP at 50 degrees above the strength will be significantly reduced.
(9) Aging phenomenon: in the ultraviolet light; wind, sand, rain and snow; chemical media; mechanical stress and other effects easily lead to performance degradation.
(10) Low interlayer shear strength: interlayer shear strength is borne by resin, so it is low. It is possible to improve the interlayer bonding strength by selecting the process, using coupling agent and other methods, and avoiding the interlayer shear as much as possible when designing the product.
