The Dubai Future Museum opened on February 22, 2022. It covers an area of 30,000 square meters and has a seven-story structure with a total height of about 77m. It costs 500 million dirhams, or about 900 million yuan. It is located next to the Emirates Building and is worked by Killa Design. Designed in collaboration with Buro Happold.
The interior space of Dubai Future Museum is colorful and consists of seven floors, and each floor has different exhibition themes. There are VR immersive displays, as well as outer space, bioengineering tours, and a science museum dedicated to children that encourages them to explore the future.

The entire building is framed by 2,400 diagonally intersecting steel members, and there is not a single column in the interior. This structure also provides an open space inside the building without the need for column support. The cross-arranged skeleton can also provide a shading effect, greatly reducing the impact of energy demand.

The surface of the building is characterized by fluid and mysterious Arabic, and the content is a poem written by Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej on the theme of Dubai’s future.
The interior construction utilizes a multitude of composite materials, innovative bio-based intumescent gel coats and flame retardant laminating resins. For example, Advanced Fiberglass Industries (AFI) manufactured 230 hyperboloid interior panels, and a lightweight, quick-to-install, durable, and highly formable flame retardant composite provided the best material for the Ring Museum’s hyperboloid interior panels The solution, the interior panels are decorated with a unique raised calligraphic design.

A unique double-helix DNA-structured staircase, which can be extended to all seven floors of the museum, and 228 glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) oval-shaped light structures for the museum’s parking lot.
Due to the challenging structural and fire safety specifications defined, Sicomin’s bio-based SGi128 intumescent gel coat and SR1122 flame retardant laminated epoxy were selected for the panels, an additional advantage is that, in addition to high fire performance, SGi 128 also contains more than 30% carbon from renewable sources.

Sicomin worked with panel manufacturers to provide technical support for fire test panels and initial Adapa molding trials. As a result, its high-performance flame retardant material solution has been approved by the Dubai Civil Defence Department and has been certified by Thomas Bell-Wright for Class A (ASTM E84) and B-s1, Class d0 (EN13510-1). FR epoxy resins provide the perfect balance of structural properties, processability and fire resistance required for museum interior panels.

The Dubai Museum of the Future has become the first building in the Middle East to receive ‘LEED’ Platinum Certification for Energy and Environmental Design, the highest rating for green buildings in the world.
