The Belgian start-up ECO2boats is preparing to build the world’s first recyclable speedboat.OCEAN 7 will be made entirely of ecological fibers. Unlike traditional boats, it does not contain fiberglass, plastic or wood. It is a speedboat that does not pollute the environment but can take 1 ton of carbon dioxide from the air.
This is a composite material that is as strong as plastic or fiberglass, and is composed of natural materials such as flax and basalt. Flax is grown locally, processed and woven locally.
Due to the use of 100% natural fibers, the hull of the OCEAN 7 weighs only 490 kg, while the weight of a traditional speedboat is 1 ton. OCEAN 7 can absorb 1 ton of carbon dioxide from the air, thanks to the flax plant.
100% recyclable
The speedboats of ECO2boats are not only as safe and strong as traditional speedboats, but also 100% recyclable. ECO2boats buys back old boats, grinds composite materials and remelts them into new applications, such as seats or tables. Thanks to the specially developed epoxy resin glue, in the future, OCEAN 7 will become nature’s fertilizer after a life cycle of at least 50 years.
After extensive testing, this revolutionary speedboat will be shown to the public in the fall of 2021.
