Solvay announced the launch of CYCOM® EP2190, an epoxy resin-based system with excellent toughness in thick and thin structures, and excellent in-plane performance in hot/humid and cold/dry environments.
As the company’s new flagship product for major aerospace structures, the material can compete with existing solutions for wing and fuselage applications in major aerospace markets, including urban air traffic (UAM), private and commercial aerospace ( Subsonic and supersonic), as well as national defense and rotorcraft.
Stephen Heinz, Head of Composites R&I, said: “The growing customer base in the aerospace industry requires composite materials to provide in-plane damage tolerance and manufacturing performance. We are proud to introduce CYCOM®EP2190, which is a versatile Compared with the traditional main structural system, the new prepreg has significant advantages and meets the performance and production process requirements.”
One of the advantages of this new prepreg system is that its superior toughness is combined with excellent heat and moisture compression properties to provide an ideal balance of performance. In addition, CYCOM®EP2190 provides powerful manufacturing capabilities, allowing the use of manual or automated manufacturing methods to manufacture parts with complex shapes. This prepreg system will enable customers to use the same material in multiple target applications.
The performance of CYCOM®EP2190 has been proven in customer tests by several UAM, commercial aircraft and rotorcraft manufacturers in the United States and Europe. Product configurations include unidirectional carbon fiber grades and woven fabrics.
